At RMCU, we benefit from bringing in young talent who may eventually want to join our team, while giving our staff the opportunity to oversee interns and learn new skills in managing others.
For local students, interning at RMCU is an incredible opportunity to gain real-world experience in their chosen profession. Whether a student wants to become part of a marketing team, an accountant or lender, or discover a new career path, they will gain insight into how a credit union like RMCU works.
Through their time spent in our branches, students gain a realistic perspective on the experience of working for a credit union, including the duties involved, workplace norms and how to collaborate with others in a professional, enthusiastic environment. It also allows interns the chance to see up close whether they would like to work at RMCU or a similar institution.
RMCU 2021 Summer Interns
This summer, we have two Montana State University students working with us in our Helena and Butte areas.
Makenna Carpenter is a business major, working as a project management intern in our Butte branch. She loves how friendly and helpful everyone is in Butte. Makenna also brings this attitude to her volunteer activities – coaching youth basketball, serving at the local food bank and working with Big Brothers Big Sisters. She is incredibly driven towards success and hopes that this internship will lead to a better understanding of her future career.
“I feel that this internship will show me firsthand what it’s like to work in a business environment,” Makenna said. “This internship will give me experience many other students may not have.”
Our other intern, Sydney Gehringer, is about to begin her marketing degree at MSU this fall and has joined us in Helena to better understand the inner workings of a business development and marketing team.
“I think this will be extremely helpful to me as an incoming college student since I have not yet gotten to experience business outside of high school,” Sydney said.
Sydney is a perfect fit for the internship at RMCU because, like us, she is active in giving back to the Helena community. For the past few years, she has been working at kids’ summer camps at the Helena Athletic Club and helping out at school with programs for special education. In Helena, she has met so many good people and has been able to hold on to the connections made in this small community. She brings skills to our RMCU team like her strong work ethic and ability to get along well with others.
We believe that our employees and students in Montana have a lot to learn from each other, which is what makes this internship program so important to our organization.
