Romantic and Affordable Valentine's Day Ideas

Whether you love the idea of celebrating Valentine's Day or you’re just ready to snap up discount chocolate on February 15, it still helps to have a few date ideas in your back pocket. And you shouldn’t let your budget get in the way of a romantic celebration to remember. Here are a few ideas to make Valentine's Day cost-effective while keeping the romance.

Play Tourist

As locals, it’s easy to overlook some of the tourist attractions in your own town. Get out to a museum or two, browse galleries, or go to a nearby national park. Rediscovering the area where you live can help you reconnect with each other.

Have a Dance Party

Put on some music and dance! You can have two left feet and still enjoy moving together. Pull up some dance lessons on YouTube, and you can be tangoing across the living room in no time.

Embark on an Outdoor Adventure

Nothing says romance like breathing in the fresh air and finding some dreamy views. Finding outdoor fun for February in Montana might sound tricky, but just live by the saying that there’s no bad weather, only bad gear. When dressed appropriately, you can have some fun in the elements. Being outdoors together, even in the cold, can be invigorating.

Prepare a picnic and let your beau pack up some firewood, and you have a toasty night out under the stars. Snowshoeing, sledding or cross-country skiing can all get you out with your sweetie. Even if you have to rent some gear, it's a cost-effective way to build memories and have a great time.

Dish it Up

You don’t have to spend a bundle or pack into a crowded restaurant to enjoy a Valentine’s Day meal together. You would be surprised how easy and inexpensive it is to create some of your favorite gourmet eats at home. Bonus points if you shop together as well. Create a memory, and maybe even start a new tradition together.

Have a Game Night

Are you and your significant other a little competitive? Create a night in with board games, app games, and trivia games. Go for the old standbys like Heads Up, Trivial Pursuit, and Scrabble, or borrow a new game from friends, and go at it. You can create a little healthy competition and have a ton of fun without spending a dime.

Visit a Hot Springs

With prices as little as $8 in some Montana hot springs, this is a super budget-friendly date idea. Even better, head to a natural hot spring and enjoy a soak for free! Enjoying a nice soak with your significant other could be the most relaxing thing you do together.

Create a "Date Night Jar"

Sit down at the table with your significant other and pour yourself a drink. Spend the night coming up with fun and creative date ideas together. Keep them in a jar, so when you lack inspiration for date night, go to the jar. It’s so much fun to come up with silly date ideas together and take the pressure off deciding what to do.
