Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a day of sunshine at a local park. In Montana we love to be outside so find a park you haven't been to and check it out.
Perform a Science Experiment
There are some great experiments that you can find online and create with items you can find around the house.
Go for a Nature Hike
Help your children explore nature by joining in on a family hike. Create a list of local leaves they may find along the way and pick them up to make a scrapbook later.
Cool Off in the Sprinklers
On a hot day pull out the sprinkler or slip-n-slide and help your kids beat the heat while enjoying the outdoors.
Go Bowling
Many bowling alleys will offer discounted family nights during the summer. Take advantage of these events and bowl a few games with the kids.
Get Your Kids Some Culture
On rainy days consider making a stop at your local museum. Many museums offer kid-friendly exhibits and hands-on displays.
Catch the Latest Movie
Take your children to the latest kid-friendly flick and get a couple of hours to sit back and relax.
Have Them Write a Play
Find some costumes and props around the house and have your children stage a play. Once the play is complete, invite your family and friends for the show's premiere.
Have a Water Fight
Whether it's water guns or water balloons, you can have some fun and stay cool without having to leave your backyard.
Put on an Art Show
Let your children create some paintings, sculptures, and drawings and create a gallery display around the house. Once completed, take your family members on a tour of your very own art gallery.
Set Up a Lemonade Stand
To keep your kids on summer break entertained and help them earn a little extra cash, set up a lemonade stand when a neighbor has a garage sale.
Have a Game Night
Set a night aside for some family-friendly competition. Gather up your kid's favorite games and spend some quality family time.
Bake With Them
While your children may not always want to help with what you do around the house, many will jump at the chance to help with baking. Even if they spend more time eating than helping, it is a great activity to enjoy with your children and end up with a sweet treat at the end.
Don't let the summer stress you out, try some of the activities above to help your kids on summer break battle their boredom. Remember you don't have to spend much to have an enjoyable day for both you and your kids.
