5 ways to Rock Amazon Prime Day

Jun 26, 2019 - Posted by: Rocky Mountain Credit Union
Whether you’re buying or selling, Prime Day is the prime time to score big. For such a big day, the secrecy shrouding this day is real, though. It may happen sometime in mid-July, but last year its exact date wasn’t announced until July 2. And “day” doesn’t necessarily apply, either. In 2017, it was closer to three days, and in 2018 it lasted 36 hours. But whenever it comes and however long it lasts, it’s sure to be big. This is the largest sales day of the year, even bigger than Black Friday, climbing to $2.4 billion in sales in 2017.

But what does this mean for you? Whether you’re a seller or you’re just looking for great deals, there are plenty of ways to take advantage of Prime Day. Here are just a few tips to get you started on the road to a great day of deals.

Just Annouced: Prime Day 2019 - July 15th and 16th

For Buyers

Prime Day shopping is the most common way to participate, so here are all the quick-and-dirty tips you need to get going.

What Deals to Look For

The deepest discounts will most likely be on Amazon’s own products, like the Fire TV, the Kindle, and the Echo. It’s worth starting to scope some things out so you’re ready for the day when prices will likely match or beat the ones you’d find on Black Friday—and you don’t even have to shop through a turkey coma to take advantage of them.

How to Shop

Online shopping doesn’t just have to happen on a computer anymore. If you have the Amazon Echo or Fire tablet, ask Alexa to order for you. There may even be special voice-only deals available. Using the mobile app to order could help you score deeper discounts too.

Don't Forget...

This sale is only for Prime members, so if you’re not already on board, it’s a good excuse to sign up. And your Prime Day purchases will all enjoy the free two-day shipping, not to mention the other Prime products that it gives you a gateway to like Prime Video or Kindle Unlimited. If you don’t already have Prime and you’re on the fence about going for it, you can always just take advantage of the free 30-day trial period to ease into it while you snag some deals.

Give Back

The Amazon Smile program lets you give to charities of your choice, while you shop, all for free. A portion of your purchases will go to whichever one you select. Just log in to your Amazon account to get set up.

For Sellers

If you make money selling on Amazon, whether on the side or for your full-time gig, Prime Day is an event you don’t want to miss out on. Get your Lightning Deal submissions in early—we’re talking May—and start to prepare for the sale's announcement. Here are some of the benefits of taking advantage of Prime Day as a seller.

Boost Sales and Revenue

This is somewhat of a "no-brainer," but it pays to think ahead to how you can best drive sales during this busy time. You’ll also want to your inventory stocked high and ready to ship so you can maximize profits while it’s going on.

Increase Brand Awareness

With so many eyeballs on Amazon for the event, you have a great chance to build your brand. Get your products out there on Prime Day, and that momentum could carry your sales well into the next quarter.

Launch New Products

During Prime Day, all that new brand awareness you’re building makes the perfect jumping-off point to launch a new product. Start thinking about it early, and get ready to make a splash.
